[ being an anime character who doesn't realize he's an anime character talking to a fictional girl from a meta-fictional world about a real life anime director ]
That's true. From your perspective an Arthur be terrible. [ hmmm ] Some of his other stories are nicer.
Well, Mother Goose is a storyteller, but his stories don't come from nothing. He tells stories he already sort of knew. So maybe if it's like that it's okay, but... the Arthurs are pretty bad. Or, maybe not bad, but they don't care about us. They just want the story to go the way they want, where bad things happen so we learn lessons, and if we try to resist it, it's dangerous.
But... I did like the movie. I didn't hate the lessons in it, the way I hate the lesson of my story.
[ he thinks about the other ghibli movies he's seen for a second. ]
Mm. Some stories have messages, not morals.
[ a movie about nature or growing up is different from an old wives' tale about mermaids, which are a thinly veiled warning about the sea as much as they are a story. ]
...Yeah. There wasn't one thing that was good or bad, so it's less frustrating. [even lady eboshi is the girlboss of all time.]
Not straying from the path, listening to your elders? And in particular, mine is like...my mom always says "don't stray from the path! it's dangerous!" but she isn't more specific than that. So I stray a little bit one day, and it turns out the consequences are a wolf eats my grandma and tries to eat me. Which, if she'd just said be careful that a wolf might trick you and eat your grandma, that would've been much more fucking helpful!
[...]
Sorry for saying the f word. It just makes me mad because elders aren't always right. My mom also said the woodsman would come and save us if we were in danger, and that wasn't fucking true at all! [...] Sorry again for the f word.
[ he looks gently bemused, the hint of a smile in his eyes. ]
Rin used that word sometimes too. [ like, literally, the english Fuck ] It's okay.
[ it's just funny when someone cute like either of them says it. ]
...Maybe the lesson should've been that parents are human too. [ and that they make some dumb decisions, like telling a little girl to wait to be saved forever. ]
w3 ; tues
That director is pretty famous.

[honestly this is going to lead to some funny lore so keep explaining.]

...Right. You don't know what a Japan is.
His name is Miyazaki. He's made a lot of movies about nature and stuff.

[she seems bothered by this somehow.]
He made them? He's their...Arthur?

Back home, it's a normal job.
[ he looks down the theater hallway ]
Movies like these come out all the time. Usually by different directors. ...Arthurs.

What's the lesson in yours?

...You're probably right. Moms make mistakes sometimes, too.
