Even if you did that, you'd have to coordinate it with your whole group. If the other three all admitted to receiving the same one while you claimed something else, that would stand out in the same way as claiming not to have received anything at all.

Simon was probably relying on us not communicating. Because he's not the type to do it, himself. [ or, perhaps, more graciously: ] Could be that he's afraid of people acting on this information, too.

There are good reasons not too share it too widely. I just don't understand why he would say "I didn't get anything" rather than "I just don't want to tell you".

A lie would be a little too easily disproven, especially if it was told to someone else who was in the same situation as him the week before. "I don't want to say" is at least more understandable, if a little frustrating.

If his team made a strategic decision or something, I don't want to manipulate his feelings. Maybe it's okay if we don't trust each others' teams.
