I could.

[making such a face. nerfing is illegal.]

But it seems like something or someone is blocking it.

Well - I don't know how it works for specialties like empaths or illusionists, but I can explain mine, at least. How much do you know about physics?

Oh. Well, I can try to explain in layman's terms if you want?

[prepare yourself for the nerdiest explanation in the world]

Sure. So, I mentioned physics, right? It's my specialty, so I can influence the way the physical world works.

Like, for example... Gravity. Objects attract each other based on mass, right? But that attraction is a kind of force. It's hard to explain exactly how if you've never done it, but I can see that force and either decrease or increase it. That's just one application, though. I've been able to force the conditions for the chemical reaction that makes fire, and my - colleague, Nico, he has the same specialty as me. He can access fault lines and force them to shift enough to make small earthquakes.

[that last part is said with a bit of a huff, presumably because of whoever nico is, but the rest is delivered with Nerd Excitement.]

Yeah, I...

[tiny pause, and with considerably less enthusiasm]

I could. [bummer. anyways!] It's rare even where I'm from, though.

Well - if there's a way, I'll find it.

[even if there's a distinct strand of frustration in her voice. she isn't about to start venting to a teen, though, so she puts that away and gives him a little smile instead as she answers.]

Thanks for the reassurance, though. Really.
